Most people have a fear of something, so you are not alone. It might help to go to the basement a few times with a parent. Make sure the lights are on, and take a deep breath to calm yourself if you need to. When you’re in the basement, look all around you. If there are closets or cabinets, look inside them. You might find that you are not so frightened once you know exactly what’s in the basement.
Another idea is to sing loudly when you go into the basement. Even though it might feel silly, filling the basement with song can help make it seem less scary.
