Dear Friend,

Smelly sulfurous water!

Smelly sulfurous water!

Phew! I wish I could have bottled the smell of these hot springs (called fumaroles) and sent it to you! It was an awful sulfurous smell like rotten eggs. Then again, we were standing near bubbling pools of hot sulfurous water and steam vents formed by ancient volcanoes, so the smell was to be expected. Although we couldn’t take a dip in these hot springs at Hsiaoyiokeng Fumarole Nature Preserve, there are resorts all over Taiwan that allow guests to soak in hot springs. And the water smells a lot better, too!
