Getting
ready for the flight
|
Dear Friend,
Anyone
who flies from New Zealand to stay at McMurdo Research
Station in Antarctica has to be outfitted with about thirty-five
pounds of clothing for extremely cold weather. I was told
that I had to wear a lot of it on the airplane, which
carries cargo as well as people. My clothing includes
a thick red parka, insulated underwear, and many pairs
of gloves and socks. And I was given a pair of bunny
boots, which are white, big, and very heavy. Each
one weighs more than three pounds! They are needed to
keep my feet warm when I walk and stand on the ice.
Your
friend,
Bob
