Skeleton Trees
By Monica Gunning

I heard
of trees that shed
their autumn leaves—
yellow, orange, red—
before winter’s snow.
But till I saw
those bony skeletons
without their leafy skins,
I never dreamed
trees would stand
like Halloween ghosts,
trembling in the wind.
