Read
“A Toolmaking Crow” on page 11 in the
March issue, then watch this video of the crow at
work. This video shows a crow bending a straight wire
into a hook to lift a bucket of food from the bottom
of a clear plastic pipe. At first, we can’t
see the whole bucket, just its white handle. The crow
tries several times to lift the handle using a straight
wire. When that doesn’t work, she sticks the
end of the wire into a gap in the tape on the far
side of the pipe. She moves around the pipe, bending
the wire into a hook. Then she uses the hook to lift
the bucket out of the pipe. Finally, she eats the
food.
