How to Make It:

  1. Use a small nail to poke holes around the sides of a long cardboard tube.

  2. Poke a toothpick through a hole in one side of the tube and out a hole in the other side. Repeat with more toothpicks for the other holes until many toothpicks are crossing the inside of the tube. Use another toothpick to put a dot of glue at each hole. Let dry.

  3. Holding the tube away from you and inside a trash can, clip the toothpick ends flush with the tube, using nail clippers.

  4. Paint the rain stick.

  5. Cut two large circles from a paper bag. Glue a circle over one end of the tube. Use a rubber band to hold it in place as it dries.

  6. Put a handful of popcorn kernels into the tube. Glue the other circle over the opening, sealing the kernels inside. Let dry.

  7. Glue string around the two ends as a decoration.

  8. Gently turn the rain stick on end to listen to the rain-like sound of the popcorn kernels as they fall against the toothpicks.
