What You’ll Need:
- string
- empty spool
- candy stick, pencil, or short dowel
- glue
- scissors
- piece of lightweight material
- paint
- decorations
How to Make It:
-
Thread a 15-inch-long piece of string halfway through the middle of a small empty spool.
-
Paint a candy stick, pencil, or short dowel that fits into the middle of the spool. When it is dry, glue one end of it into the spool.
-
Cut an 8-inch square from lightweight material, such as an old scarf.
-
Cut a tiny hole in the center of the material. Push the stick and the lower half of the string through the hole. Glue the material to the bottom of the spool.
-
Paint features and a face on the spool. Decorate it with glitter, sequins, thread, or other materials glued in place.
-
Hold an end of the string in each hand so the string is horizontal. Twirl the spool away from you as if the string were a jump rope. Turn the string upright and pull it tight to watch the ballerina dance.
