How to Make It:

  1. For the covers, cut two 3-inch-by-4-inch pieces of cardboard. Glue fabric scraps to cover them.

  2. Cut a 3-inch-by-20-inch strip of heavy paper. If necessary, glue two shorter strips end to end to form the long strip. Accordion-fold the strip into eight equal parts.

  3. Starting with A, B, write two letters of the alphabet at the top of each of the six middle sections of the strip. Turn the paper over, and continue. On the last two sections, write three letters (U, V, W and X, Y, Z).

  4. Lay the strip so that the A-L sections face up. Glue the blank ends to the inside covers.

  5. Cut an 8-inch piece of ribbon. Center the ribbon on the back, and glue it in place. Glue one side of a hook-and-loop fastener to each end of the ribbon.
