How to Make It:

  1. For each egghead, ask an adult to save the larger portion of an eggshell he or she breaks for cooking. Wash the shell piece, and set it aside to dry.

  2. Paint a face on the shell with markers.

  3. To make "hair," fill the shell with potting soil to within 1/4 inch of the top. Scatter grass seed on it. Cover the seeds with a thin layer of soil.

  4. Drip water onto the soil.

  5. Place the egghead on a small upside-down bottle cap. Put it in a window that gets morning sun. In several days "hair" will sprout. For different kinds of hair, experiment with different kinds of seeds.
